What we say up front

OKTAN Agency is a French business based in Villiers-le-Bel, north of Paris. We have no office, address or representative in Germany, and we will not pretend otherwise. You work directly with an independent provider who designs, builds and delivers your project from France.

We work in English, not in German. If your team is comfortable running a project in English, which is common in German start-ups, e-commerce and export-oriented businesses, distance is not an obstacle. If every exchange has to be in German, a German provider will serve you better, and we would rather say so now.

Building a brochure website or an online shop, or taking over an existing one, does not require anyone to be physically present. Calls take place by video, decisions are confirmed in writing, and you follow progress on a preview link that you can open at any time. If your project needs meetings on your premises, a visit to Germany is possible on quote, with the travel costs set out in advance.

Same time zone, same working day

France and Germany share the same time zone and change their clocks on the same weekends. There is no time difference to manage, whether you are in Berlin, Hamburg, Munich, Cologne or Frankfurt.

In practice, calls, design reviews, acceptance testing and go-live all happen during your normal business day, and written questions are answered by email. You can book a free 30-minute discovery call directly from our contact page.

Language of the project, language of the site

The project itself is run in English: calls, written exchanges, quotes and handover documents.

The website we build for you can of course be in German, in English or in both. We handle the technical side of a multilingual site: language versions, language switch, correct language declarations for search engines, translated interface texts in the shop and its emails. The German content itself is supplied by you or by a professional translator you choose: we integrate it, but we do not write or proofread German.

Quotes and invoicing

Every project starts with a detailed quote that sets out the scope, deliverables, milestones, estimated lead times and price. The order is firm once the quote is accepted in writing and the deposit is paid. Our full terms of sale apply.

Prices are shown and invoiced in euros. VAT not applicable (article 293 B of the French General Tax Code). The tax arrangements that apply to your business in Germany are set out on the quote.

Outside France, we work with businesses only. We do not accept orders from consumers.

The German rules your website has to respect

Germany applies the EU framework, with national laws that add obligations of their own. For a business website or online shop, four texts matter most.

  • The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), directly applicable, supplemented by the Federal Data Protection Act (BDSG). Supervision is carried out mainly by the data protection authority of each federal state (Land).

  • The Telecommunications Digital Services Data Protection Act (TDDDG, formerly TTDSG). Its section 25 transposes the ePrivacy rule: storing or reading information on a visitor's device, such as analytics or advertising cookies, requires consent unless it is strictly necessary for the service the visitor asked for.

  • The German Digital Services Act (Digitale-Dienste-Gesetz, DDG), in force since 14 May 2024, which replaced the Telemedia Act (TMG). Its section 5 contains the Impressum obligation. See our page on the Impressum under the DDG.

  • The Accessibility Strengthening Act (Barrierefreiheitsstärkungsgesetz, BFSG), which transposes the European Accessibility Act and has applied since 28 June 2025 to e-commerce services offered to consumers, with an exemption for micro-enterprises providing services. See our page on the BFSG.

We deliver the technical implementation: a consent banner that actually blocks trackers until the visitor chooses, an Impressum and a privacy page structured for your details and for what your site really does, accessible templates and checkout. We do not give legal advice, and your legal texts remain your responsibility or that of your adviser.

What businesses in Germany ask us for most

The domain name, hosting account and content stay in your name from the first day to the last, and the data we handle for you stays in the European Union. Prices for each service and our packages are on our pricing page.

What we do not promise

We do not guarantee a search ranking, a sales figure or legal compliance. A website built with care makes compliance much easier to achieve and to demonstrate, but compliance also depends on how you run your business, what you do with the data you collect, and choices that only you can make. German warning letters (Abmahnungen) are a legal matter: if you receive one, see a lawyer; we can then fix the technical cause.

If, after a first call, we think a German provider would serve you better, for instance because you need exchanges in German, we will tell you.

Frequently asked questions

Do you work in German?

No. Projects are run in English. Your website can be in German, with content supplied by you or a translator of your choice, which we integrate and set up technically.

Can you come to our premises?

Yes, on quote. Our services are delivered remotely by default; if your project calls for a visit in Germany, it is planned in the quote with the travel costs set out in advance.

How is VAT handled between France and Germany?

Our invoices are in euros, with the statement that French VAT is not applicable (article 293 B of the French General Tax Code). The tax arrangements that apply to your business are set out on the quote.

Will my online shop comply with the BFSG and the GDPR?

We build the technical side properly: WCAG-based accessibility, consent before any tracker, an Impressum and a privacy page matching what the site does. Compliance also depends on how you run your business, so we do not guarantee it, and we do not give legal advice.
